University Relations/Issues Management

Depending on the subject, various URCM professionals consult with units across campus to identify and analyze complicated issues and promotional opportunities, develop strategies to ensure that the right messages are communicated to the right audiences and evaluate results. We also manage contentious or negative information internally and externally, including stakeholder and media communication during crisis situations and emergencies.

We develop and issue official communications to internal constituencies about issues of health and safety, as well as administrative announcements from the president or executive administrators. We also help prepare background, research and messaging for the UNT president to use for special events, speaking engagements and administrative communications.

As URCM's Associate Vice President, Kelley:

  • coordinates integrated strategic communications in support of the university and provides direction for URCM's teams, which are responsible for promoting and protecting the university's image and reputation through strategic internal and external communication in a range of ways including printed pieces, websites, videos, social and news media.
  • acts as a university spokesperson and provides leadership for issue and crisis response.
  • manages the campus-wide Public Relations and Marketing Committee.
  • interacts with the UNT System and other System-member institutions, as needed.

As UNT's Communications Strategist for University Initiatives and President Communications, Ernestine:

  • serves as the communications specialist for the Office of the President and leads, develops and executes communications for the president and his initiatives.
  • manages presidential communications -- from internal and external communications to social media and other needs.
  • leads team charged with creating the integrated communications and marketing collaterals for presidential and university initiatives such as the University of North Texas New College at Frisco, annual State of the University and Planning Implementation workshop.
